Fight like a girl :)

I have been asked by the wonderful  Zenita to share a little something with you today about a cause that is near and dear to my heart. Cancer.  She is doing a "think Pink" segment on her blog the 12th of every month.  So, I have a story and a card to share with you today :)

(My card is made using silhouette, Pinque Peacock angel stick pin, and Saturated Canary digi)

This is one of my favorite pictures  of my mom with my youngest daughter taken several years ago..

My mom is  73 and deaf, last January my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Cancer runs in her family, she has had 5 nieces  that have had breast cancer. So she would do the self breast exams occasionally, but did not get her mammograms. One day she felt something underneath her right breast and decided to go and have it checked. She had had cysts before and figured that this was the same thing.  She went to the doctor and went through all the tests. When we went to the doctor's office for the results we were told that she had stage 3 breast cancer. Needless to say we were devestated. After the initial shock, we made plans for the surgery and told the family.

My mom's sister then told us that one of her other sisters had been diagosed with breast cancer and treated for it several years earlier, but they decided not to tell her because they didn't want to worry her! Let me give you a piece of advise...do not spare someone the trouble of worrying. If she had known that her sister had breast cancer and that it had put her at a higher risk. She would have gotten her mammograms and could have found it MUCH earlier.

She has since went through chemo and because she was at a stage 3, they initially thought she would have to go through radiation. After her last chemo treatment she went in to be checked and see if she would need the radiation,  she was below the threshold of needing it and did not have to take it. Thank the Lord :)   She had went through so much during the chemo that I just couldn't bear to see her having to go through more with the radiation.

My mom is doing well and taking it day by day. Her hair is starting to grow back and she is really excited about that lol.  She is  a very strong woman and someone that I admire very much.  Thank you so much for sharing your time with me. It has been an honour to share my mom's story with you.
